How Is Mono Diagnosed?

How Do I Know If I Have Mono?

Patients diagnosed with Mono are usually fit and healthy adolescents or young adults so most tend to have the same complaints when visiting a doctor. Patients with mono will generally complain of four to five days of sever fatigue, headache, loss of appetite, fever, sore throat like symptoms and enlarged cervical lymph nodes.

What Are The Tests For Mono

One of the most important distinguishing factors in diagnosing Mono are lesions on the soft palette in the mouth which sets it apart from HIV, strep, or herpes simplex which share some of the same symptoms of Mono. Diagnostic testing for Mono infection can be done with a combination of imaging and biological testing. One such preferred method is the Monospot test, which looks for specific antibodies in the blood that occur from a Mono infection. Ultrasound imaging can also be done to look for anomalies in the spleen such as swelling and increased length to confirm Mono.
